Lake Maggiore is full of historic villages, museums and gardens plus there are some superb excursions. Here are a few suggestions....
- Lake Maggiore contains 11 islands; the most famous being the Borromean Islands in the gulf between Stresa and Verbania and can be reached by ferry
- Sail up to the Swiss part of the lake in the canton of Ticino and explore the beautiful Gambarogno Rivivera and the bustling, cosmopolitan resort of Locarno
- Lake Orta - small but one of the most beautiful Italian lakes and just over 25km from Stresa
- Milan - a full day for shopping and seeing the Duomo - the incredible catherdral
