Salou is a wonderful family beach resort just 10km southwest of Tarragona and is the tourist capital of the very popular Costa Dorada in northern Spain.
The resort has managed to retain its charm and traditions despite the annual influx of tourists and you'll enjoy the relaxing days by the fabulous beaches and lively evening entertainment along the promenade. Hidden away in the back streets is where you will find the best restaurants and authentic tapas bars.
There are 9 beaches around Salou but the main two flanking the promendae are called Ponent and Llevant. They stretch for around 2 miles all the way up to Cambrils with chiringuitos beach shacks serving snacks and drinks throughout the day. A big plus for families with younger children is the kids beach club providing various supervised actiivities. Further along towards, La Pineda is the beautiful rocky coves of Cap Salou - definitely worth a visit.
