Lacanau town and it's delightful modern beach resort Lacanau Ocean, known as a surfing mecca, sit on the west coast of the Medoc peninsula just 40kms north-west of Bordeaux. The resort is a very popular retreat for many Bordeauxians as well as tourists from around Europe and is the busiest town on the Cote d'Argent.
Sandwiched between the town and the beach resort is Lake Lacanau with its own Ile aux Oiseaux in the middle. This nature reserve is a great place to explore plus if the atlantic swells are too large for the children, the lake is a good alternative with a few beaches and all types of watersports.
